LLLT Hair loss Treatment (Low Level Laser Therapy)
A modern method, used as a supplementary therapy, and addressed to both men and women. It is mainly used in cases of androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss, common baldness) but also in cases of diffuse or spot baldness (alopecia areata). It is also used, with very good results, to enhance hair growth after transplantation.
LLLT Hair loss Treatment acts in two ways:
1.The energy cells of the hair follicle are stimulated, resulting in increased ATP production by the cells and in a faster hair growth.
2.The local blood flow in the region of the scalp that exhibits alopecia is stimulated, resulting in the growth of hair with greater length and diameter.
Results of Hair Loss Treatment with laser LLLT
According to various scientific studies, the results of LLLT hair loss treatment can slow down or even stop hair loss in 85% of the patients, whereas growth of new hair is observed in 55% of the cases. At the same time, of great importance is the observation that treatment with LLLT increases the diameter of the hair shafts, thus improving the appearance and the volume of the hair.
Hair Loss Treatment with LLLT - LaserComb
LLLT Hair loss Treatment is effective in men and women:
- With Diffuse Alopecia
- With Alopecia Areata
- With a family history of male pattern hair loss
- Who already display hair loss (either they are or not under treatment)
- Who are about to undergo hair transplantation or have had hair transplantation in the past
- With hair loss due to other causes (diffuse alopecia, alopecia areata, drug-induced alopecia, chemotherapy, etc.)
- With severe hair loss after pregnancy or menopause
The non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical nature of LLLT LaserComb therapy and the low energy levels of the laser beam guarantee that the treatment can be applied on a long-term basis without any side effects. LLLT is a painless, bloodless and without any complications hair loss treatment but its efficiency lasts as long as the treatment is applied and its efficiency comes to an end once the patient stops the treatment.
LLLT treatment can be applied in the doctor’s office, initially with sessions of 15 minutes duration, 3 times per week for the first month. Then, for two months, it takes place one session per week of 15 minutes duration. In order to preserve the results, LLLT treatment is applied once a month.
In case a hair transplant has taken place, it is suggestable to apply LLLT treatment one month post-operatively so as the newly implanted hair follicles are protected during their growth.
A major advantage of topical treatment with LLLT is that it can be easily done as home therapy. There are portable devices available with rechargeable batteries, similar in appearance to a hair brush, which emit both LLLT wavelengths and infrared radiation (heat), stimulating the blood supply to the hair follicles. Under the doctor’s guidance, the patient can use a portable laser LLLT, LaserComb, initially daily for about 10-15 minutes and after the 3rd month of treatment, 3 times per week.
The first results of LLLT hair loss treatment will start to appear from the second month after commencement of the treatment. The results gradually improve during the next months and remain stable, provided that the treatment is not interrupted. If treatment with LLLT is interrupted, hair loss will start to intensify again after a period of 2-3 months, and the situation will gradually return to its pre-treatment state.
A combination of LLLT treatment with the application of minoxidil in the regions that suffer from alopecia optimises the results. These methods give better results in cases of incipient or partial hair loss, but have no effect in cases where baldness has existed for many years, as there are no hair follicles to be stimulated. Hair loss treatment with laser is fully compatible and complementary to PRP hair loss treatment.
